Tattoo Aftercare
Congratulations on your new tattoo!!
I will wrap your tattoo for you to keep it safe while you travel home. Leave it on until the evening or , next day in the morning (recommended).
Then you can remove the wrap, have a shower, use your fingers to carefully wash away any plasma that may be present.
You might see bits of ink coming out - this is completely normal.
Clean the tattoo until it stops feeling slimy.
Please allow the tattoo to dry naturally or use a piece of clean kitchen roll to gently dab it dry. Then re-wrap in cling film to sleep - not too tightly though!
X Do not use a bath towel as they harbour bacteria
X Do not touch your tattoo without washing hands first
X Do not let other people touch your tattoo
X Do not use any cream at this point
X Do not let animals come near your tattoo
Saniderm Aftercare (my recommended method)
Day 1
In the morning remove the the cling film and blue pad.
Remove the wrap, have a hot shower, use your fingers to carefully wash away any plasma that may be present.
You might see bits of ink coming out - this is completely normal. Clean the tattoo until it stops feeling slimy. Then let the tattoo air dry or dry off with paper towels, let it the tattoo breathe for 30 min or more.
Wrap in clingfilm (no cream) until that evening
Take wrap off, Clean once more with warm water or shower, or run paper towels under warm water and wipe down tattoo.
Make sure the tattoo is completely dry before applying Saniderm, otherwise it won’t stick
Peel the paper side off, stick it down flush onto your skin, cover an area slightly large than your tattoo. Apply subsequent layers on the rest of your tattoo, overlapping other layers of saniderm.
When applying Saniderm ensure skin is in a neutral position . When applying to elbows and knees, the joint should be in a neutral position - neither straight nor completely bent.
Practice before you apply. If it's your first time using Saniderm, it may be a little tricky to work with. It doesn't hurt to practice with a small section first, just make sure you shave the area.
When cutting the bandage for application, remember that rounded corners provide the best adhesion.
It's okay, when using multiple Saniderm bandages, to overlap them by 1/2 inch (1 cm).
Leave Saniderm (second skin) on for 4-5 days
If you see a little bit of liquid under second - it should be fine
If you see a large liquid pool under second skin - take it off
Taking off saniderm:
Take off in the shower and clean with warm water and a bit of antibacterial soap. After, let it dry out for an hour or more.
Your tattoo will still be dry - so you need moisturise
Apply a light layer of cream on your tattoo (too much cream will suffocate your skin and it will take a long time for the skin to naturally dry out)
Some people don't react well to saniderm- if you experience a rash around the tattoo, and wherever the clingfilm is touching, please take it off and just use light layers of cocoa butter instead.
The most important thing is to keep cleaning the tattoo - every 4-5 hours,
Recommended moisturisers : Dr Palmers cocoa butter ‘solid formula’ (available at boots)
or Organic coconut oil
X Do not do any exercise for a week after your tattoo
X Do not doing anything to cause excessive sweating
X Do not pick at scabs or flakes as it will pull the ink out
